This lovely climbing flower can often be seen in the hedgerows and verges and grows up to 2m tall.It has hairyleaves and stems,with branched clinging tendrils that allowit toclimb up other shrubs and trees. The bluish-purple flowers droopin long, one-sided clusters producing seed pods with fourto eight seeds with a claw like tip.
It likes fertilesoil and can grow well in damp ground. It wil not grow well in a meadow unless it is cut very late. Seeds will need scarification to germinate readily.
