Oenothera biennis
A tall, elegant plant with soft green leaves and bright yellow flowers that open at dusk, releasing a sweet evening scent. A favourite of moths and night‑flying pollinators, bringing gentle colour and movement to meadows, verges, and open ground. Readily self‑seeds once established.
This late-flowering plant is often found in less fertile, stony ground or grows in disturbed soils. Reaching over 1 meter high, it provides a colourful addition to a bank in late summer.
Sow seeds any time of year in bare soil; it needs a winter chill to break dormancy.
