The latin name for the common figwot is 'Scophlaria nodosa'. The height of the figwot id 40-80cm its top surface is crimson and the base is creamy yellow. The leaves are green, oval,pointed and situated on short stalks oopposite eachother. They are found in woods, shady places, riversides on moist fertile soils and sometimes on waste ground. They can be grown from seed under protection in early spring or autmn, then transplanted out into the garden or containers when large enough to be easily handled. It flowers June to October and is quite widespread throughout the UK.
